Abstract

This paper presents an overview of Romani literature that emerged in the South Slavic countries after World War II. It begins with a general overview of literature and the differences between its written and oral forms. For each South Slavic country, several authors and their works are listed, along with a review of the language they used. It then presents the problem of standardization, as well as a brief overview of the grammar of the Romani language. In conclusion, it is noted that poetry predominates in Romani literature, and that the largest number of poems are on the topic of the Holocaust and the Romani way of life. It also notes the need for a greater presence of Romani literature on the European literary scene, as well as the need to bring this literature closer to a wider audience.
