Abstract
The Gypsy Lore Society, an international association of persons interested in Gypsy/Romani Studies, was founded in Great Britain in 1888. Since1989 it has been headquartered in the United States. Its goals include promotion of the Romani studies; dissemination of accurate information aimed at increasing understanding of Romani life, history, language,cultures and contemporary situation in their diverse forms; and establishment of closer contacts among scholars active in Romani studies.The society sponsors programs and conferences and publishes the twice-yearly Romani Studies(continuing Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society), aquarterly Newsletter and other occasional publications. The Society has also recently established, at the Michigan State University Libraries in East Lansing, Michigan, USA, the Victor Weybright Archives of Gypsy Studies,specializing in recent scholarly work on Gypsy, Traveler and related studies, for the benefit of researchers and students.The Annual Meetings of the Gypsy Lore Society are organized in collaboration with prominent scholars and academic establishments worldwide. Meetings typically include presentations of recent research,discussion sessions, exhibits and films.The main activity in the Annual Meeting is the Gypsy Lore Society Conference on Gypsy/Romani Studies.
